Bernard Alligand travels around the world. From his travels and his artist residences, he brings back more than inspirations: fragments of soil, sand, plants, fabrics. His passion for customs and cultures combined with her artistic talents give life to ethno-compositions. After Egypt, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Bernard Alligand merged with Iceland.
The works displayed in Châtenay-Malabry show the artist’s fascination with this island whose name literally means “ice-land”. Volcano lava, beige and black sand, pebbles, ocher mud, sulfuric mud: at each of his stays in Iceland, Bernard Alligand brings up to 120 kg of materials in his luggage. Touch and play with the material, crush the pieces and put them back together: back to his studio, the artist inspired by his “harvests” compose works that mix fire and ice. Excerpt from Châtenay-Malabry’s magazine, nov.2017.
